5 Months

Dear Lukey,

Where on earth has the time gone? I can't believe you are 5 months old already! I think back to your birthday and in some ways it feels like a lifetime ago, and in other ways it feels like it was just yesterday. I can hardly remember what life was like without you...the only thing I can remember is that there was a little more freedom, and it was much easier to just run in to the store! All things that were easy to give up. :)

Here's a cute picture of you mid-spit. You are so big sitting up in the cart!

You learned to roll over this month. About 2 weeks ago to be exact. Dad was in Oregon with Nate, visiting Skyler and Genevieve, so he missed it. I video taped it for him though, so that was good enough. You got quite frustrated because you hate being on your tummy and not able to see everything that's going on around you. Luckily you learned how to roll back over to your tummy after a few days. That made my life easier...sort of. You can still only roll one direction though, so I just start you at one end of the room, and when you start grunting with frustration (meaning you are stuck and have no more room to roll) I just flip you over and let you roll your way back. It's really kind of funny.

Here's a great shot of you eating your toes.....

We are working on getting you to sleep through the night right now. We're on about day 5. It's progressively getting better every night. The first night was torture...you cried in your bed for 45 minutes. That was rough. Second night: you woke up only once and I gave you your binkie and you went right back to sleep. Third night: you woke up for about 30 minutes again...I made dad go in and check on you, and no wonder you were crying - you were rolled over on your tummy with both legs sticking through the sides of you crib!!! I felt really bad about that....no wonder you cried for so long! Fourth night: you woke up for about 5 minutes, finally decided you were tired enough to accept your binkie and went back to sleep. Last night was difficult though...your dad and I were out late (grandma and grandpa daley watched you) and we had Megan, Tyler and Chris over at like 11:30 so you woke up. Again, only for about 10 minutes - you just wanted to party with us! So anyway, I guess we'll see how tonight goes....

You are still loving your rice and oatmeal cereal. I don't think I feed it to you often enough though. You kind of act like it's just a treat, and when you're done with it, you still want a bottle. You get a little frustrated that it's not quite as instant-gratification as your bottle. It takes longer for you to get full.

We gave you your first hair cut this month...and your second one too :) Definitely not an easy task considering it is basically impossible to get you to stay still! I can still see a few straggling long hairs, oh well right?

You are definitely getting more and more personality every day - you're quite the opinionated little boy, I must say. You are better at expressing emotions too...it's no longer just crying or happy! It's frustration, anger, hurt, ignored, hungry and tired. I think you are dying to learn how to talk - you look at me so intently sometimes and make noises like you are talking. And sometimes you even get angry when I don't respond. It's pretty cute really.

You LOVE to stand up - if we try to sit you down and you don't want to, you just arch your back until we stand you up again. You just refuse to bend...so stubborn. (I'm pretty sure you get that from dad....right?)

Your favorite show to watch is Handy Manny. I think you're going to be bi-lingual because of it. I never thought I'd be the mom that relied on television to babysit my kids...you just love it so much, it's so convenient! It's on from 8-9 in the mornings, right when you want to play and I'm trying to get ready for the day! It's funny because you'll watch it and Little Einsteins comes on right after and you just stop paying attention and get fussy like you're bored.

And Amber thought she would try out this toy you love so much....

While Dad was in Oregon we had St. Patrick's Day dinner with Kaitlyn and her family...

And some randoms.....

The one in the middle is my fav!

We love you lots Lukey!
Love, Mom and Dad

Just in case I haven't told you enough, but I am completely in love with your child! Thanks for letting me be around him so much and letting us play! He really is adorable and you are a great mom. Oh, and I watched a lot of TV when I was younger and I turned out just fine. So don't have guilt about letting him watch it!
